  • TherbanĀ® hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) is a specialty elastomer used in demanding applications in the mobility, industrial, and oil and gas markets. It has a combination of very good heat, oil and abrasion resistance in addition to its high mechanical strength, and very good dynamic and compression set properties. In many applications low temperature requirements are a key qualifier. There are many methods to predict low temperature performance of elastomers, such a DSC Tg, Temperature Retraction test, Dynamical Mechanical analysis, etc. This study goes into several low temperature properties of HNBR based vulcanizates. Influences of Polymer on low temperature properties will be discussed, such as ACN content, residual double bond content as well as polymer Mooney. Furthermore, the influence of compounding ingredients will be discussed, such as peroxide content and crosslink density, plasticizer type and level and filler type and level.
