CSR Testing has been performed for over 50 years as a Standard Rubber Test Method based on ASTM D6147 or previous test guidelines. In the 2000 era, I developed some new CSR Jigs and Fixtures that became the standard test fixtures for the US Automotive Industry. This later resulted in the development of the SAE J2979 Test Method for Performing CSR Testing using those CSR Jigs in 2013. Since that time, I have developed a deeper understanding of CSR Testing and expanded the concept and understanding of CSR, as a more of a material response for design purposes, rather than just a standard to compare materials for specifications. It is the hope that some of this new information will get incorporated into an updated revision of SAE J2979.
