Many people perform CSR Testing and often claim they do it in accordance with accepted test methods or standards, such as ASTM D6147, ISO 3384, or SAE J2979, but they often do not get the same results. Why might this be the case? This paper will discuss several factors that can affect the variability of the CSR Results. It will discuss the different equipment and approaches for determining Sealing Force, and the controls necessary to ensure accurate and reproducible results. It will also discuss the capability and limitations of the different CSR Test Systems and Procedures used to determine CSR Data and Results, and their progression. Is your Test System Capable? Are you following a correct and capable CSR Test Procedure? Do you have adequate Test Controls?
