  • New rubber/silica masterbaches named EVEC (Eco-Visco-Elastomer composite) are the compounds manufactured using a continuous liquid phase mixing process. In this process the polymers used are in a solution form instead of latex. Compared with the silica compounds produced with conventional Banbury mixing, these new masterbatches are characterized by excellent filler dispersion, higher polymer-filler interaction and lower filler-filler interaction. In this presentation, the basic properties of these new materials will provided with special emphasis on passenger tire applications, using SSBR/BR as the basic polymers. Compared with the silica compounds made with conventional dry-mixing process and similar formulations, the new compounds are featured by excellent filler dispersion, higher efficiency of coupling agents, better processability and cure kinetics, higher ratio of the stresses at high elongation over that at low elongation, significantly lower hysteresis at 60°C, higher hysteresis at low temperature, and improved abrasion resistance.
