Effects of Different Accelerators in EPDM

A31 schmitz effects of different accelerators in epdm

Event: 196th Technical Meeting - Fall 2019
Location: Cleveland, OH
Date: October 08, 2019
Author: Michael Schmitz
Paper Number: A31

Price: $20.00

  • This paper discusses the effects of different thiazoles, dithiocarbamates, and thiurams have in EPDM sulfur cure systems. Traditionally, most cure system information was provided in polymers like SBR and natural rubber because it was aimed at the tire industry. Both natural rubber and SBR polymers cure very differently than EPDM because of the EPDM’s lower level of diene curing sites. The goal of this paper is to help rubber compounders and chemists understand how the different accelerators effect an EPDM rubber compound. Rheology and aging studies will be showcased and discussed.
